Why you’re LOSING 50% of your sales!

marketing-sales-lossStudies by Forrester Research estimate “that approximately 50 percent of potential sales are lost because users can’t find information and that 40 percent of users do not return to a website when their first visit is a negative experience.”

That’s a HUGE chunk of prospects! And what that means is that the ease-of-use and navigation of your website are responsible for nearly HALF of your sales—if that doesn’t make you want to re-examine your site, I don’t know what will!

So let’s do this. Pull up your homepage, click through to read more, and let’s take an honest look at your site with these five important questions you need to ask…

I want you to think about what you do when you receive a promotion for a product or service you’re interested in. Do you call? Do you show up at the store? Or do you visit the website? If you’re anything like me, you visit the website because it’s the easiest and quickest way to get what you want—more info!

And once you’re on a business’s website, what makes you feel good about that company? What makes you interested in learning more? Or — what makes you NOT want to do business with them?

It’s the same with your site. Every prospect that visits is evaluating your business based on what they find there. So YOU have to find out if your site is creating a positive or negative experience for your visitors, and there’s really only one way to do that. Get an outside opinion.

A few years ago, I took a stack of postcards we had recently printed for our clients and started reviewing the websites on those cards. It was QUITE the eye-opening experience (and not in a good way)!

Our clients’ websites were full of broken links and outdated designs, which if you’ve viewed my essentials for a successful website design, you’d know is a big no-no! Even though these business owners thought their websites would increase sales, I found it hard to believe. In fact, they were probably hurting their sales.

Trust me, I know how frustrating and difficult it can be to get a website done in the first place, and then to find out it isn’t very good… that’s downright devastating. But, that’s exactly why we decided to offer web services, even though I swore I wouldn’t!

Hopefully you have your homepage up and you’re ready to take an honest look at it. Here are some of the questions you need to ask yourself and those not directly involved with your website so that you can get some honest feedback.

  1. Is the contact information big, bold and clear?
  2. Do you immediately know where you want to go to get the information you want?
  3. It is clear what product or service you’re selling on the homepage?
  4. Did you become impatient with how slowly the site loads?
  5. Was the products and services page easy or difficult to locate?

If you really took a serious look and think you might need some expert advice, we have an entire web development department that would be more than happy to look over your site and let you know if anything needs to change!
