Maniacs Give Back: One Blood

PostcardMania partners with One Blood throughout the year to help save lives. Not only does One Blood follow the mission of enhancing the well-being of others through their programs, but it also contributes to scientific research and technology.

PostcardMania works with One Blood staff to host multiple blood drives every year, which are open to all 360-plus maniacs as well as nearby Clearwater neighbors. Anyone and everyone can donate blood at PostcardMania.

Why should a person take the time to donate their blood? Just one donation could save up to three people’s lives! Volunteer blood donors are needed daily to give blood for the thousands of patients who need it. Blood also can’t be made or manufactured, so blood donors are the only source of blood for patients in need of a blood transfusion.

In fact, every two seconds a person needs blood. Here are some common reasons a person may need blood:

• More than 25% of the blood supply is used by patients battling cancer.
• One out of every 83 childbirths requires a blood transfusion.
• The second most common medical procedure in U.S. hospitals is the transfusion of blood and blood products.
• About 3% of the blood supply is used to treat pediatric patients.

Roughly 62% of the population is eligible to donate blood, but unfortunately less than 3% takes the time to donate. A blood draw only takes 5-7 minutes, and in total time, the appointment amounts to about 30-40 minutes long.
