Here are 3 Steps to Creating Search Engine Friendly Content in a Snap…
Step 1: Come Up With Helpful Industry Relevant Content Ideas
This is going to take some brainstorming. Give yourself 30 minutes to brainstorm as many possible topics as you can think of. Go read the blogs of others from your industry and write down every idea you have. Also, think of anything you know your customers always ask about, and remember that just because something is common knowledge to you doesn’t mean it is common knowledge for everyone! As a professional in your industry, you have knowledge your prospects don’t.
Because they don’t have your expertise, when they need help, they are going to turn to the all-mighty Google to direct them to the information they need. If you create search engine friendly content on the topics your prospects want to read about, you’ll give Google a place to send these prospects. If you have good, helpful info for them, they’ll trust you and be more likely to give you their business.
Let’s look at some content examples for a few industries. These could be quality blog posts:
Landscaping: “4 Landscaping Tips for Increasing Curb Appeal”, “5 Fall Landscaping Tips”, “3 Creative Landscaping Ideas for Homeowners”.
Salon and Spa: “6 Perfect Manicure Tips”, “4 Things You Should Remember When Dying Your Hair at Home”, “4 Little-Known Benefits of Regular Massages”.
HVAC: “How to Cut Energy Costs at Home”, “4 Problems That Come With a Leaky AC Unit”, “3 Health Benefits from Improving Air Quality”.
Step 2: Find Quality Keywords That Are Relevant to Each Post
Once you know what you are writing about you can find some natural, high-quality keywords to include in your blog post. Quality keywords are the ones your prospects are typing into Google. When you include them in your post Google knows that your blog post will be helpful for them, and will place it higher in their search results. You can find keywords using the Google Keyword Tool.
Here’s how it works:
You’ll arrive on a webpage with a few search options. You want to use the “Word or Phrase” option. Simply type in a phrase you think someone would use to find your content into the box. For example, “fall landscaping ideas.”
Before you hit search, click on “Advanced Options and Filters”. The last option, “Filter Ideas”, has a drop down menu. From that menu select “Competition”, and check the box marked “Low”. This will show you keywords close to your title that don’t have a lot competition, which means your post will rank high in the search results when prospects use your keywords, because their isn’t a lot of competition.
For your best chance of ranking high in the search results, look for a keyword that is very specific and doesn’t have too much traffic. Maybe target under 300 global monthly searches. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it’s better to have a great search ranking for 100 prospects, than a weak search ranking for 10,000 prospects. You can see the global monthly searches in the middle column to the right of the keywords.
Once you find a few good keywords, use the best one in the title of your post. Use it again, as well as the others you found, in your post’s body text 3-5 times.
Step 3: Repeat
Now do this with all of your posts, as well as your website copy. Also remember your posts need to be written well and full of prospect-focused content that can help them in some way. This will endear them to your company and help you generate leads from your blog views. Your keywords shouldn’t just be shoved in, because you need them to make your post search engine friendly. You should use them naturally. If your prospects can tell you’re just filling your posts with keywords to get to the top of search results they won’t give much credibility to your content or your company. There’s no point in attracting them just to drive them away.
