The Situation

The University of Illinois was conducting a fitness study and needed a way to get students involved. After hearing about the success of direct mail marketing, they contacted PostcardMania for their marketing needs.

The Solution

PostcardMania designed a 6 x 8.5 inch postcard that included the following features:

  • Offers for a free Fitbit and a $100 Amazon gift card for completing the fitness study
  • A QR code that students could scan for more information and to sign up
  • Detailed information on the back of the card to get students interested
  • A list of requirements to join the research study

The University of Illinois used a consumer list and mailed out 4,000 postcards to local residents aged 18-35 who have completed high school, live in a household with income of $60,000 and under, and live in a 3.79-mile radius around the college address. The postcards were mailed out in quantities of 2,000 cards over the course of 2 weeks.

The Results

They received 148 responses from students and 20 participated in the study!

After the mailings, The University of Illinois received 148 responses! This gave them more than enough applicants to select from and narrowed the pool down to 20 participants for the study.
