The Biggest Marketing Crime You May Be Committing
Last week I hit the road for another stop on my tour across the country to meet clients and document their postcard marketing success. Destination: New York and New Jersey. (See some pics we took.)
I visited so many different types of businesses (nine all together), ranging from an accountant to a music school, and I was SO excited to see that ALL of them are growing. It’s true, marketing DOES have an impact on your income and the new business you bring in!

As I was talking with iSchool of Music and Art, Commerce Payment and others, I encountered a common and MAJOR mistake: they have no email newsletter follow-up in place. This is BIG.
We only close around 2% of prospects on their very first call in. Through our follow-up (including our email newsletter), we eventually close 25% of all prospects. Without a follow-up system in place, we would likely be doing about $2 million in revenue a year instead of around $20 million. The amount of money that people are leaving on the table through lack of follow-up is HUGE.

It's not always what you say, but rather how you say it. The layout of your marketing piece is "how" you are saying it. Great copy is not always enough, it has to have a great layout to support it. The postcard Joy critiques this week is a perfect example of this.
