4 Ugly but True Facts about Lead Generation


truthMarketing can be overwhelming. Believe me, I know. There’s lead generation, lead nurturing, customer service, follow-up funnels, follow-up newsletters, follow-up phone calls — and within each of those categories, a litany of options that proclaims to do it best. But ultimately, if you want your business to grow consistently, lead generation HAS to be a top priority.

Starting out on my own as a small business owner (with no investment capital!), I didn’t make money if I didn’t generate leads and close them on a weekly basis, so I know a thing or two about lead generation. My own internal marketing department generates about 800 leads for PostcardMania a week!

Nothing in Life is Free—Especially Customers

We’ve all heard something like this before, but I can’t stress how true it actually is. Sure, customers can find you via a search on Google, which SEEMS free for your business, but if you really want to shine bright like a diamond online, you need some serious search engine optimization (SEO) skills to put your website at the top of Google’s results. This requires constant fine tuning, and unless you’ve hired someone to do this for you, it will eat up all of your time—and we’ve also heard that “time is money.”

Use What’s Tried, Tested and True

This is marketing, not the elementary school playground. You don’t have to play nice with your marketing tactics.
