There’s no doubt that one of the best ways to spur customers and prospects to action is urgency. You see this everywhere in the marketing world in phrases like “Hurry, sale ends soon,” and, “Limited Time Only!”
The key to urgency is to have legitimate urgency. Do you know anyone that really believes a car company when they say their sale ends on Monday? If I walked in on Tuesday and said, “I’d like to buy this car, but I want the deal that ended yesterday,” my guess is that I would get that deal.
Their eagerness to sell the car undermines the legitimacy of their claim that I have to “act now”.
What does real urgency look like, you ask? Well…
How about when a best selling author releases limited additions of a new book. Everybody wants one, but not everyone can get it. If you waffle, you’re going to miss out. So you act IMMEDIATELY. It’s instinctive.
The key is to have a great product everyone actually wants.
